It's Not You; It's Me

So, this is basically just a poem. Like every piece of literature, it has a story, which you can probably piece together by reading it. I hope you enjoy reading it!

So many people say,
"It's me, not you."
But with us it's really true.
You see, you've been a perfect gentleman,
Respected every wish and whim.
All in all, you've been more
Than I could ever ask for.
You've restored my hope in princes and dreams,
And even if ours doesn't involve you and me,
At least we have what we used to be,
And I can say in all honesty:
"It's not you; it's me."
You've been a prince;
I felt like a queen.
I know you really care about me.
You said you want to know me more,
But I'm not ready for what's behind that door.
So I hope this isn't goodbye.
I hope you know this makes my heart feel like
A stone thrown into a well and
Drowning alone without you.
I'm afraid this is easier for you.
I'm afraid your heart's not breaking
In two or three or four like mine.
I'm afraid you'll move on and be fine.
I'm afraid you'll find...
Someone else
Better.
But if it's for your best,
Then there's nothing else left to say,
But I hope you'll see:
"It's not you; it's me."
